3-Hour Lampwork Class

$250 per person (max. 2 people)

$300 private one on one class

Discover the magic of lampworking in a friendly, hands-on 3-hour class designed for complete beginners. Learn basic torch safety, how to manipulate glass, and create beautiful beads and small glass charms you can take home.

What you'll learn

  • Torch and studio safety: proper gear, safe torch handling, ventilation, and basic first-aid.

  • Glass fundamentals: types of glass, color rods, and how glass behaves when heated.

  • Flame and hand control: positioning, heat zones, and maintaining a consistent working temperature.

  • Basic shaping techniques: winding, marvering, and creating smooth, round beads.

  • Surface decoration: simple dots, stripes, and basic encasing for depth and color effects.

  • Annealing basics: why it matters and how we anneal your pieces for durability.

Who it's for

  • Absolute beginners with no prior glass experience.

  • Makers who want a friendly, supportive introduction to lampworking.

  • People looking for a creative idea, paired activity, or gift experience.

Class format

  • Duration: 3 hours

  • Small class sizes for personal attention (maximum 2 people)

  • All tools, safety gear, and glass materials provided

  • Instructor demonstration followed by guided hands-on practice

  • Take-home your finished beads and charms (typically 4 + pieces, depending on complexity), these won’t be ready on the day as they have to be annealed.

  • Annealing is cooling glass slowly so it doesn’t crack.

When glass cools too fast, the outside cools first and the inside stays hot. This traps stress inside the glass. That stress can make it crack —even days later.

    Annealing fixes this by:

    • Holding the glass at a warm temperature

    • Letting it cool down slowly and evenly

What to bring/wear

  • Closed-toe shoes

  • Cotton clothing (no synthetic fibers) and long pants recommended

  • Hair tied back and minimal jewellery

  • A positive, curious attitude!
